The former President sends his autograph on a bookplate for his book, All the Best

George Herbert Walker Bush, 1924–2018.  41st President of the United States.  Autograph Note Signed, George Bush, on personal 4” x 6” bookplate.

Bush cleverly uses his personal bookplate to send his autograph.  In a note that incorporates the title of his book All the Best, George Bush, the former President writes, “Jay Mason  /  All the best  /  George Bush.”

In 1999, six years after he left the White House, Bush agreed to publish a compilation of letters that he had written over his lifetime.  The book became All the Best, George Bush:  My Life in Letters and Other Writings (1999).  Echoing a friend’s suggestion that the press “never really understood your heartbeat,” who he really was, Bush wrote in the preface that the book was “not meant to be an autobiography” but instead was “all about heartbeat.”

This is a beautiful example of Bush’s holograph and signature.  The double-bordered bookplate is printed in blue and gold on self-adhesive Avery CrackN Peel® paper.  Bush has inscribed and signed with a black felt-tip pen.  The bookplate backing is intact, and there are a few small remnants of tape on the backing from prior mounting of the piece in a mat.  Otherwise, this piece is pristine.  Because of the mounting remnants, we must grade it only very fine under the strict  Manuscript Society grading criteria that we follow.

Unframed.
