George W. Bush

George Walker Bush, 1946.  43rd President of the United States, 2001.  Dinner menu, embossed with the presidential seal, boldly inscribed and signed To Cullen / Best wishes / George W. Bush.

This piece has an excellent association.  It is a menu from Bush's dinner in honor of Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City on November 10, 2001, one day short of two months after the September 11 terrorist attacks.  We acquired it from the person who personally had Bush sign the menu at the dinner.

The support of Musharraf, one of the first Islamic leaders to support the United States after the September 11, 2001, attacks, was important in American efforts to counter global terrorism. Musharraf allowed the United States to use several military bases in Pakistan, and Pakistani troops pursued Taliban and al Qaeda insurgents in the country's rugged tribal areas near the border with Afghanistan.

Bush has inscribed and signed the menu in black felt tip pen.  There is an unobtrusive crease at the bottom, which is less apparent on the original than on the scan below.  The piece is in very fine condition.

Bush's autograph material as President is somewhat scarce.  This is an outstanding piece with both excellent association and excellent provenance.
