Schwab Scroll down to see images of the item below the description Schwab declines a dinner invitation because of ”important engagements in Bethlehem on that day and evening” Charles Michael Schwab, 1862–1939. American steel magnate. Typed Letter Signed, C. M. Schwab, one page, quarto, on stationery of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, New York [City, New York], December 5, 1916. Schwab sends Wall Street financier S. R. Bertron his sincere regrets that he will be unable to attend a banquet as a guest of honor. He writes: “I am much pleased to have your letter . . . kindly inviting me to be a guest of honor at your banquet on December 13th. / I regret very much that I shall be unable to avail myself of this privilege, as I have important engagements in Bethlehem on that day and evening which make it impossible for me to accept. / I deeply appreciate your kind thought of me and again expressing my regret, beg to remain / Sincerely yours . . . ." Schwab has signed in blue fountain pen. The letter has some soiling, a paperclip impression at the top, and one horizontal mailing fold not affecting the signature. Overall the letter is in very good to fine condition. Unframed. _____________
