Ellen A. Wilson

Ellen Louise Axson Wilson, 1860-1914.  First Lady of the United States, 1913-1914.  Extremely rare gilt embossed presidential card signed, Ellen A. Wilson, as First Lady.

Ellen, the first wife of President Woodrow Wilson, served as First Lady just over 17 months.  President Wilson took office on March 4, 1913, and she died August 6, 1914.  Her autograph material is extremely rare in any form—and, because of her short time in the White House, is even moreso as First Lady.

This 2½" x 3¾" card is beautifully gilt embossed with the presidential eagle, which means that Ellen signed it as First Lady.  It is a nice alternative to an essentially unobtainable signed The White House card. We know of only two The White House cards signed by Ellen Wilson that have been offered in recent years.

This card is in very fine condition.  It has a tiny stain at the upper left that is barely noticeable.  There are mounting traces and a pencil notation "First wife of President Wilson of U.S.A.” on the back.

Unframed.
