Douglas MacArthur

Douglas MacArthur, 1880-1964.  General of the Army.  Glossy black-and-white candid photograph of a saluting MacArthur, as five-star general, signed Douglas MacArthur.

This is a magnificent image of MacArthur, the Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in the Southwest Pacific during World War II.  He has signed across his chest in black fountain pen.

MacArthur was one of the most popular and accomplished American military leaders of the 20th Century.  He was flamboyant and confident, to the point of being arrogant and egotistical, but he was a genius as a military tactician.

This photograph has creases and a couple of tears.  They are not, though, as pronounced as the images suggest, and the superb image of MacArthur outweighs the defects.  Overall the photograph is in very good condition.

The photograph is richly double matted in olive green with an inlaid silvertone wood fillet and engraved identification plate, ready for framing. This is a desirable piece and would be a fine addition to any World War II collection.
