Gerald R. Ford

Gerald Rudolph Ford, Jr., 1913.  38th President of the United States, 1974-1977.  Magnificent large Oval Office portrait photograph inscribed “To Patricia and Elliott Roosevelt, with warmest best wishes,” and signed, Gerald R. Ford.

This is a beautiful photograph of Ford, the second of his official portraits.  Ford is sitting in the Oval Office, with his desk, the American flag, and the Presidential flag behind him.  He has boldly inscribed and signed in black on the mount.  The photograph itself is 7¼" x 9" and is mounted to 11" x 14".  The piece is too large for our scanner and thus is larger than the scan here shows. Signed large format presidential photographs such as this are quite uncommon.

This photo is particularly desirable because Ford has inscribed it to the son of another president. Elliott Roosevelt (1910-1990) was the second son and third child of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor.  This photograph also has excellent provenance, since we obtained it directly from a member of the Roosevelt family. To our knowledge it has never been on the market before.
