Dwight David Eisenhower, 1890-1969.  General of the Army; Supreme Commander, Allied Expeditionary Force, World War II; 34th President of the United States, 1953-1961.  Formal 7¼" x 9½" Army portrait photograph of Eisenhower mounted to an overall size of 10½" x 13" and inscribed and signed on the mount, For Elliott Roosevelt  /  Mayor of Miami Beach / with best wishes and warm regard  /  from an old friend  /  Dwight D. Eisenhower.

This photograph has an excellent association.  Eisenhower has inscribed and signed it to Elliott Roosevelt, the second son and third child of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.  FDR, as commander-in-chief during World War II, named Eisenhower Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.  Elliott Roosevelt accompanied FDR as a military aide to the Casablanca conference in 1943 and the Cairo-Teheran Conference of 1944, and as an Army photo reconnaissance pilot he played a key role in the D-Day landings, which Eisenhower commanded, on June 6, 1944.

This official Army photograph shows Eisenhower in uniform with his five-star rank as General of the Army.  The autograph dates from the period between 1965 and 1969, when Elliott Roosevelt was the mayor of Miami Beach, Florida.

This classic image of Eisenhower has outstanding provenance.  We obtained it directly from a member of the Roosevelt family.  Eisenhower has inscribed and signed on the mount with a brown felt tip pen.  The mount is toned from previous framing, and the inscription and signature are also a bit faded but still easily legible.  Overall the piece is in very good to fine condition and is very desirable, given the association with Roosevelt.
