Album page signed by Andrew Johnson ten days after leaving the presidency

Andrew Johnson, 1808–1875.  17th President of the United States.  Signature, Andrew Johnson, dated March 14, 1869, in Johnson’s hand.

Johnson signed and dated this 3½” x 4¾” album page ten days after he left the White House upon the inauguration of Ulysses S. Grant on March 4, 1869.  He has signed and written the date in brown steel nib pen.

There is a bit of brushing to the signature and the date, probably by Johnson himself.  A flattened horizontal fold touches the bottom of Johnson’s signature.  The paper is irregularly trimmed at the bottom, and the left edge is irregular from where the page has been torn out of an album.

Overall, the piece is in fine condition and is perfect for framing.  It comes with a vintage 8½” x 11” steel engraving of Johnson, with a facsimile signature at the bottom, made from a photo by framed photographer Mathew Brady.

Unframed.  Click here to ask us about custom framing this piece.
