Walt Disney

Early sentiment and signature on an album page

Walter Elias Disney, 1901–1966.  American animation icon.  Autograph sentiment and signature, Sincerely / Walt Disney, on a 5¾" x 6¾" album page.

This is an early example of Disneyʼs signature that appears to date from the 1930s, before his signature took on all of the flourishes that he began adding around 1940.  Disney has signed in black fountain pen, and his signature itself is 3¾" long.

The influence of the brilliant Disney on the world of cartoons and animated films is inestimable.  He was an innovator in the world of film, creating or helping to create such memorable characters as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and such classic animated films as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Bambi, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and Cinderella

Disney and his brother, Roy O. Disney, founded the Walt Disney Company in 1923, and in nearly a century the company has become one of the largest and most respected in the world.  Disney gave his name to Southern Californiaʼs Disneyland Park, and after his death the company expanded its theme parks to include Walt Disney World Resort near Kissimmee, Florida, the most visited vacation resort in the world, and Disneyland Paris, the Tokyo Disney Resort, and Hong Kong Disneyland.

This piece comes from a collection assembled in the 1940s and has not been offered on the autograph market since.  A black-and-white photo of a young Disney is tipped to the right end of the album page but could be matted out if the piece were framed.  A vertical fold runs through the "n" in “Disney,” and there is a touch of soiling, but overall the piece is in fine to very fine condition.
