04-079 Fred M. Vinson Click on image for larger size
Frederick Moore Vinson, 1890-1953. Secretary of the Treasury; Chief Justice of the United States, 1946-1953. Check filled out and signed by Vinson, 3" x 9", July 3, 1922. With this check, Vinson pays a bill for his lawyer advertising. The check is written to the C-R-C Law List Company, a publisher of lawyer listings. The check is written and signed in black ink in Vinson's careful hand. This check has two vertical folds, one of which barely touches the “d" in “Fred,” but neither fold is as pronounced as the scan suggests. The red stamp of the New York Trust Company bleeds through slightly from the back, but it does not substantially detract from the beautiful ink signature. The check is in fine condition. Unframed. _____________
