Harry S. Truman, 1884-1972.  33rd President of the United States, 1945-1953.  Very fine 11" x 13½" sepia tone portrait photograph inscribed and signed, Kind regards to Miss Gertrude Hayes  /  Harry S. Truman.

This formal presidential portrait was Truman's favorite of himself.  It was taken by Frank Gatteri, a photographer for the United States Army Signal Corps, circa 1945, after Truman acceded to the presidency following the death of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.  It appeared on Truman's campaign posters in 1948 and is used in the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's official engraving of Truman.

Truman almost certainly signed this photograph as president.  It is undated, while Truman dated virtually everything that he signed after he left the White House.  Furthermore, the signature is typical of those in of Truman during his early White House years.

Truman has boldly inscribed and signed this large-format photograph in black ink.  The signature is 3½" long.  For the sake of accuracy, we note that the photo shows a bit of handling and has a line of ink along the top white border, well removed from the image, that could easily be matted out if the photograph were framed.  The photo is in very fine condition overall.

Unframed.  Please click here for information about custom framing this piece.
