The former President sends a signed first edition of his daughterʼs book

Richard Milhous Nixon (1913–1994), 37th President of the United States, and Julie Nixon Eisenhower (1948–), daughter of President Nixon.  Typed Letter Signed, RN, one page, 7¼" x 10¾", on personal stationery, San Clemente, California, June 24, 1977; and hardbound first edition copy of Eisenhower's book Special People, inscribed and signed To Bill Stover / With warm good wishes / to a special friend – / Julie Nixon Eisenhower.

Former President Nixon sends his longtime friend and supporter William W. Stover a signed copy of Special People, his daughter Julie Nixon Eisenhowerʼs book published that year.  He writes, in full:  “I thought you might like to have the enclosed, personally autographed, copy of Julieʼs book, ʻSpecial People.ʼ  /  While I must admit to a bit of parental prejudice, I hope you will find, as I have, that it portrays insight into the very sensitive lives of some of the famous personalities of our time.  /  Pat joins me in sending our very best wishes."

The book contains biographical accounts of prominent people whom Julie had met, including Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong; Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meier; author Anne Morrow Lindbergh, the wife of famed aviator Charles A. Lindbergh; Ruth Bell Graham, the wife of Rev. Billy Graham; Charles, Prince of Wales; and her husbandʼs grandmother, First Lady Mamie Doud Eisenhower.

Stover, a lawyer, was a 1955 graduate of Stanford University Law School.  He also served as the chief of staff for California Senator George L. Murphy.  Nixon kept in regular contact with him.

President Nixon has added the salutation, "Dear Bill,” by hand and has signed his famous RN signature, both in jet black ink.  The letter has one normal mailing fold and one small crease in the lower right corner.  It is in very fine condition.

The book, a first edition, is in fine condition, with a very good dust cover.  Julie Nixon Eisenhower has inscribed and signed the book in bright blue on the front free endpaper, which has a tad bit of toning that is not nearly as apparent in hand as it appears on the scan below.  Otherwise, the pages and boards are clean, bright, and sharp cornered, the text block is square and tight, and the spine is clean with unworn imprinting.  The dust cover shows a bit of wear and has a small tear, with very small paper loss, at the base of the spine.
