Schwab Scroll down to see images of the item below the description Schwab declines a dinner invitation because of “important engagements in Bethlehem on that day and evening” Charles Michael Schwab, 1862-1939. American steel magnate. Typed Letter Signed, C. M. Schwab, one page, quarto, on stationery of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, New York [City, New York], December 5, 1916. Schwab sends Wall Street financier S. R. Bertron his sincere regrets that he will be unable to attend a banquet as a guest of honor. He writes: “I am much pleased to have your letter . . . kindly inviting me to be a guest of honor at your banquet on December 13th. / I regret very much that I shall be unable to avail myself of this privilege, as I have important engagements in Bethlehem on that day and evening which make it impossible for me to accept. / I deeply appreciate your kind thought of me and again expressing my regret, beg to remain / Sincerely yours . . . .” Schwab has signed in blue fountain pen. The letter has some soiling, a paperclip impression at the top, and one horizontal mailing fold not affecting the signature. Overall the letter is in very good to fine condition. Unframed.
