Harry S. Truman, 1884-1972. 33rd President of the United States, 1945-1953. Typed Letter Signed, Harry S. Truman, quarto, with integral leaf attached, on stationery of The White House, Washington, January 29, 1946. Truman congratulates a Missouri couple on their 70th wedding anniversary—on Valentine’s Day. In full: "It gives me the greatest pleasure to extend my sincere congratulations to you in honor of your seventieth wedding anniversary, which I understand you will celebrate on February fourteenth. Such longevity is indeed a rare blessing and may this rich companionship bring you both a harvest of priceless memories." Truman knew about longevity. He married Bess Wallace in 1919, and when he died in 1972, Harry and Bess had been married 53 years themselves. Truman has signed this letter with a bold signature. The letter is toned from prior framing and has a small stain at the bottom that could be matted out if the letter were framed. Overall the letter is in fine condition. Unframed.
