Harry S. Truman

Harry S. Truman, 1884-1972.  33rd President of the United States.  Mint condition postcard depicting the Truman home in Independence, Missouri, boldly signed Harry S. Truman.

Truman has signed this card in the area where a franking signature would normally be.  Since the card was never addressed or mailed, this is not a true free frank.  Truman may, however, have intended it to be a souvenir free frank.

All indications are that Truman signed this card as President.  First, this signature compares favorably with Truman's White House-era signatures.  Second, it is undated, while Truman almost always dated his signature after his presidency.  Third, the card refers to the Truman home as the “Summer White House,” which means that the card itself was published during Truman's presidency.  Since the original house was built in 1867 and this card says that the house “was built about 80 years ago,” the card dates from approximately 1947.

Truman has signed this with a beautiful black fountain pen signature.  The card is in mint condition.
