Felix Frankfurter, 1882-1965.  Associate Justice, United States Supreme Court, 1939-1962.  Typed Letter Signed, Felix Frankfurter, one page, 5½" x 9", on stationery of the Supreme Court of the United States, Washington, D.C., August 6, 1956.

This is an excellent association letter in which Frankfurter writes to Elliott Roosevelt, the son the president who appointed him to the Supreme Court.  He thanks Roosevelt for his compliments on Frankfurter's article about President Franklin D. Roosevelt.  He writes:  "Knowing your independence of mind, I am not a little pleased that you should have evidently derived such satisfaction from my little piece about your father.  And I thank you for your kind remarks about my work here."

This letter has excellent provenance.  We obtained it directly from a member of the Roosevelt family.  To our knowledge it has never been on the market before.

Frankfurter has boldly signed this letter in black fountain pen.  One of the mailing folds touches the signature, and there are a paper clip stain and a couple of other tiny stains above the body of the letter.  Overall the letter is in fine condition.

Unframed.
