John Catron

Rare signature of the Supreme Court Justice

John Catron, 1786–1865. Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, 1837–1865.  Sentiment and signature, Respectfully / J. Catron, on a 2” x 4” piece of paper. Catron’s autograph material is very rare.  The piece, which may have been clipped from a letter, is clean and bright.  Below Catron’s signature, someone has written “Judge U.S. Supreme Court,” and there is a small blob of ink to the left of that, not affecting anything.  There are mounting remnants on the back and faint stains at the corners, more pronounced at the lower left, where the mounting material shows though.  Overall the piece is in fine condition.Unframed.
