George Sutherland

George Sutherland, 1862-1942.  Representative, 1901-1903, and Senator, 1905-1917, from Utah; Associate Justice, United States Supreme Court, 1922-1938. Sepia tone 3⅞” x 5⅞” photograph of the Justice inscribed and signed, “For Hamilton Fish 3d from Geo. Sutherland.”

This photograph is pristine.  Sutherland has boldly signed it in black fountain pen.  There is a slight smudge to the “m” in “from,” but it is virtually unnoticeable unless the photo is enlarged, as it is in the scans below.  This is a very nice piece for a Supreme Court collection.
