Harry S. Truman

Harry S. Truman, 1884-1972.  33rd President of the United States.  Typed Letter Signed, Harry S. Truman, with handwritten postscript, on stationery of The White House, Washington, March 23, 1946.  With original envelope.

This is a highly desirable presidential letter in which Truman recounts his military service before and during World War I as he regretfully declines an invitation to attend a reunion of his former artillery battery.

The letter is in mint condition, with one normal mailing fold not touching either the signature or the handwritten postscript, which Truman has penned boldly in black fountain pen.  The envelope is in fine condition, with slight toning and soiling and a notation, presumably by the recipient, that "He tells about how long he was in Bat. F."
